Title: Victim Advocate

Location: Kentucky River Community Care/Rising Center/Rape Crisis; Hazard, KY

Employment type: Regular Full-Time

Credentials required: High School/GED with relevant experience in human services field or court system preferred.

Special Skills/Knowledge Required: Microsoft Word/Excel experience required. Must have knowledge when working with general office equipment such as computer, telephone, etc.

Primary functions:

  • Screen new cases and identifying victims in need of assistance.
  • Provide information about community resources and explaining the services of the Victim Assistance Program.
  • Assist victims in the completion of victim compensation claim forms.
  • Contact Victims and keep them advised of the case status.
  • Assess victims’ needs and alert the director of any problems.
  • Arrange for court companionship for victims attending hearings and trial.
  • Shall assist the Rape Crisis Program Director in planning for and providing for victim advocacy services.
  • Shall assist the Rape Crisis Program Director in completing victim advocate program service statistics.
  • Arrange for transportation for victims when needed.
  • Provide the victim input through the Victim’s Impact Statement.
  • Assist in assessing, monitoring and enforcing court ordered restitution.
  • Assist in the return of victim’s properly which has been recovered.
  • Provide the Parole Board with a copy of the Victim Impact Statement and schedule and accompany the victim, at their request, to the victim parole hearing.
  • Conduct and/or assist in public education and awareness events.
  • Provide training for prosecutors and other human services providers.
  • Provide outpatient referral and follow-up with appropriate service agencies as required.
  • Participate with process improvement activities as directed.
  • Provide in-person and crisis line responses to sexual assault crisis situations within office hours as necessary and requested.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary reports and statistics.
  • Review of reports and/or records.
  • Obtain required training and education hours to meet state/program requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned, such as completion of duties within specified time frames and review of supervisor’s record of assigned duties/completion dates.

Shift/Days & Work Hours: Monday – Friday.  8:00am – 4:30pm
